The Peace and Freedom Party endorses Cindy Sheehan for Congress for San Francisco's 8th District in her race against the Speaker of the House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi. Sheehan, running as an independent, has gathered an impressive coalition of support that also includes endorsements from the San Francisco Green Party, Bay Area Labor Committee for Peace & Justice, Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney and Matt Gonzalez.
While mourning the death of her soldier-son in Iraq, Sheehan became the face and voice of this nation's anti-war movement. Initially she was embraced by leftish Democrats and liberal media outlets. But she quickly became disillusioned with their complicity in the war and chose a more confrontational, and independent, route.
Sheehan was never suited for a polite role in the loyal opposition. She has correctly named George W. Bush as the world's 'biggest terrorist' and his government as 'criminal,' called John McCain a 'warmonger' and Hillary Clinton a 'powermonger'.
While protesting she's been arrested, at last count, four times.
Cindy Sheehan's platform calls for an immediate end to the war and an end to the saber rattling against Iran and other nations. She would repeal all "Free Trade" agreements that hurt both American and foreign workers, support immigrant worker rights, promote single-payer healthcare and free education, and end efforts to privatize government and implement media regulations. She questions the American government's overly generous and lopsided support for the Israeli government.
Sheehan, facing one of the most powerful politicians in America, needs support. For information call her campaign at 415-621-5027 or visit www.cindyforcongress.com.
