On February 5, 2009, the South African dockers who are members of SATAWU, backed by the union federation COSATU, refused to unload Israeli goods in South African ports. COSATU leader Patrick Craven stated that "Israel's terror included flagrant breaches of international law, the bombing of densely populated neighborhoods, the illegal deployment of chemical white phosphorus, and attacks on schools, ambulances, relief agencies, hospitals, universities and places of worship." This response to the brutal attacks on Gaza is an example to us all, and demonstrates an effective method of protest against state aggression.

The State Chair of the Peace and Freedom Party will send a letter of support and congratulation to SATAWU and to COSATU. The Peace and Freedom Party reiterates its previous statements on the urgent need for peace in the Middle East, on the basis of recognition of the full rights of the Palestinian and other peoples of the region, an end to occupations, and the release of political prisoners. The Peace and Freedom Party, that also advocates an end to all military "aid" abroad, again calls for an end to all US military and financial support to the Israeli government so long as the occupation and denial of Palestinian rights continues.
