Nationally. The National Campaign Committee is continuing to work to develop a national ticket for 2008. A Peace and Freedom Party delegation will work to expand the campaign at the U.S. Social Forum in Atlanta at the end of June, and the Independent Progressive Political Network meeting held then at the same location. Alameda County. Alameda County Peace and Freedom held a public forum April 1 on "How Can We Get the Health Care We Need?" After a lively discussion, most of the 18 attendees took petitions and leaflets in support of federal and state single-payer campaigns.
Fresno County. Peace and Freedom activist Gloria Hernandez led a discussion of the film "Cartas del Otro Lado" (Letters from the Other Side) on March 23. The film is about families divided by the U.S.-Mexico border. The event is part of a continuing series, and was also a workshop for the Cesar Chavez Conference (see "Leave NCLB behind," page 7).
Los Angeles County. The Venice Chapter of Peace and Freedom sponsored a "Teach-in on the War" on April 22, with ten speakers, music and refreshments. Riverside County. A county central committee member is on the Election Observer Panel that has been tracking problems with Riverside County's touchscreen voting system. It appears that progress is being made toward getting this Sequoia Voting Systems equipment exposed and headed for the scrap heap.
Sacramento County. Sacramento County Peace and Freedom will staff a table at the African Liberation Day event in McClatchy Park, Sacramento, on May 20, and at the Pride Fair from 10 am to 7 pm at Southside Park, Sacramento, on June 16.
San Diego County. Peace and Freedom's Janice Jordan and other members of the Theresa Azochar Chapter of the California Coalition for Women Prisoners will be featured performers for the opening night of the Women in Theatre conference in New Orleans starting July 25.
San Francisco. The Peace and Freedom Party State Central Committee meeting on July 14 and 15, 2007, will be held in San Francisco. At least one public forum will be held as part of the state meeting (details not set at press time, but probably a report-back from the U.S. Social Forum two weeks earlier).
Yolo County. The Peace and Freedom Party will have a table all three days at the Whole Earth Festival on the UC campus in Davis, May 11-13.
